Located on the banks of the Gomti River, the Lucknow Regional Headquarters of the Reserve Bank of India (R.B.I.), sits on a six acre site, with characteristic solidarity of a government institution coupled with a blend of local architecture from the regional context of Lucknow.
The iconic stature of the building is expressed through its strong axial geometry, with 2 rotundas on the North and West side symbolizing defined entry points, while a series of circular free-standing columns along its façade, offering a distinct character of a public building.
The structure is rotated about its axis at an angle to the main road; creating view frames from within - while also sequentially revealing the building as one approaches through the driveway.
In terms of a program, the building consists areas like vaults, office working spaces, conference area, safety yard and dining hall. The main building is 52 mts, Square in plan with service blocks placed at corners as pylons, offering a visual stability and sense of solidarity to the building. The cantilever projections on two upper floors protect the external walls from direct sunlight. Raised earth berms covered with landscape gardens merge the building with the surrounding lawns.
